FAQ

CPR is formulated to remove oxidative hair colour and will not affect natural pigment. DDL is formulated to remove direct dyes and, when mixed with developer, affect the natural pigment of the hair. CPR is designed to reduce the amount of pigment while DDL will lift/remove all the pigment and non-oxidative direct dye from the hair.

Yes, DDL will remove natural pigment.

For a gentler alternative, DDL may be mixed with water.

Yes.

We do not recommend processing DDL under heat, as this will increase the oxidative action. Check the hair every five minutes to ensure that the integrity of the hair is not compromised.

Yes, DDL may be used for creative colour as well as colour removal.

We cannot guarantee removal of all brands of direct dyes/fashion colours as it depends on the type of dye/colour and how often the direct dye has been applied, plus the integrity of the hair.

It is not recommended, however if a higher volume is used proceed cautiously and watch it carefully. We recommend only 10 or 20 volume.

The oxidative process is the same as the bleaching process if DDL is mixed with developer. However, DDL has other compounds to make it a multi-dimensional and safer approach to lifting pigment. If DDL is mixed with water, it is much gentler than using bleach.

Yes, DDL Direct Dye Lifter is an oxidizing agent. We recommend you protect your hands by wearing gloves.

Yes, DDL is gentler than traditional bleaches.

Any product that is oxidative has the potential to cause damage, especially if not used correctly. We recommend doing a strand test to assess the integrity of the hair.

There is no need to reformulate your colour differently following DDL. Formulate to the manufacturer’s instructions.

If your colour was mixed with a developer, then CPR Colour Pigment Remover is your tool. If it was a straight colour that wasn’t mixed and had to be used on pre-lightened hair, then DDL Direct Dye Lifter is the tool you would use.

DDL Direct Dye Lifter works best on direct dyes. This would be hair colour that was not mixed with developer. If you are in doubt of what it on the hair, we recommend using CPR Colour Pigment Remover as your first step to colour correction. If CPR Colour Pigment Remover did not remove all of the colour, you can use DDL Direct Dye Lifter next. Every hair colour has different chemistry, so it may be necessary to try different approaches in order to achieve the desired results.

How to use:

  • 1. In a non-metallic mixing bowl, mix DDL with about 90ml of water or up to 20 volume developer and mix thoroughly. Mixing with water will provide a gentle lift and mixing with developer will achieve more lift (higher volume = higher lift)
  • 3. Hair must be clean before treatment. Shampoo your hair well, preferably with a clarifying shampoo such as the Malibu C Un-Doo-Goo Shampoo to remove any styling product.
  • 4. Section your hair and apply the DDL solution with a colour brush whilst wearing gloves and avoiding the scalp. The formula will not lather.
  • 5. Apply to areas where colour needs to be lifted or where direct dyes and stains need to be removed, be it the entire head or certain sections.
  • 6. Process formula for 5-45 minutes depending on desired lift amount or the intensity of direct dye or stain. Heat is NOT required. Check hair every 5 minutes for desired lift & porosity.
  • 7. Rinse hair when desired lift achieved or when dye or stain removed completely.
  • 8. To stop oxidation, apply Malibu C Crystal Get throughout hair for 1 minute to seal cuticle. Afterwards, shampoo hair again.

What They Do

Malibu C offers a customized regimen for every hair type because everyone showering in water needs to use Malibu C. What most people don’t realize is what is hiding in your shower water is often the culprit of many common and severe issues for the hair, scalp and skin. Over 85% of the population uses shampoo with hard water, which is packed with minerals and harsh chemicals that wreak major havoc on the hair, scalp and skin and can even serve as a trigger for many conditions.

Hard water mineral build-up on the hair can be a trigger for issues such as hair color fading, poor grey coverage, brassy blondes, muddy or ashy hues, hair that lacks movement or body/bounce, lackluster locks, highlights that seem to “disappear” just a couple weeks after leaving the salon, just to name a few. Luckily the Malibu C Wellness Hair Care Remedies have the ability to rectify all of the issues, and more!
